Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions about Austin Mohawk. Please feel free to contact us if you need clarification on a question.

  • ?

What are the concrete requirements for buildings and/or shelters?

    A

While we do not provide concrete designs, we typically recommend that the pad be at least 6" thick and 12" longer in length and width than the dimensions of the shelter.

  • ?

Are your buildings and shelters ADA compliant?

    A

Typically yes, but some optional items may not be ADA compliant. Our buildings are built on a base frame, so a ramp or recessed pad would be required for ADA compliance.

  • ?

What type of glazing material do shelters typically have?

    A

Our standard shelters come with 1/4" tempered safety glass, but polycarbonate is also available.

  • ?

Do I need to install the glass when erecting a shelter?

    A

No, our shelters ship out pre-glazed for easy on-site erection.

  • ?

What type of shipping/delivery methods do you use for aluminum shelters?

    A

Typically our shelters ship via an LTL common carrier, but in some cases a dedicated flatbed may be required.

  • ?

Is liftgate service available for a shelter delivery?

    A

Yes, but only in some cases. It depends on the size of the material for the shelter.

  • ?

Do I need equipment to offload my shelter?

    A

Yes, a forklift is typically required to unload a shelter.

  • ?

Am I limited to only the models shown on your website?

    A

No, most of our work is custom and most designs shown on the website are flexible for a variety of sizes and applications.

  • ?

What site conditions do I need to have in order to have a canopy installed?

    A

A canopy site needs to have foundation installed with a concrete pad down and no drop off.

  • ?

How long will it take to get my canopy?

    A

A typical lead time for a canopy is 2 to 3 months from start to finish. It normally takes 2 to 3 weeks for PE stamped drawings to be finished. From there, another 4 to 6 weeks within production.

  • ?

Are PE drawings included in the price?

    A

PE stamped drawings along with foundation designs are included in pricing.

  • ?

    Will you pour the foundations?

    A

No, Austin Mohawk is not a general contractor. The pouring of foundations is done by others, but we will provide the design and the anchor bolts.

  • ?

Will you provide the lighting for my canopy?

    A

Austin Mohawk has the ability to provide standard LED lighting fixtures for any canopy.

  • ?

Is installation included in your price?

    A

Austin Mohawk quotes are for the canopy materials and freight cost only. Depending on the location, we will be happy to provide an install quote from our sister company Beechgrove Construction.

  • ?

Can I connect your canopy to my building?

    A

No. We provide free-standing modular steel structures, and we can use flashing to create a seal to protect against the elements.

  • ?

Do you supply a canopy that can have walls for protection ?

    A

We do not supply a canopy with walls. However in some cases we can design and apply a "wind-wall." This will help protect from the elements but is not a wall that you would typically see on a building.

  • ?

Do you have any removable canopies?

    A

No. All of our structures are secured within the ground using anchor rods and a foundation.

  • ?

What’s the difference between internal and external drains?

    A

Internal drains are located within the column using PVC piping. External drains are located outside of the column using a downspout.

  • ?

Does the canopy ship already put together?

    A

No. Our canopies ship in pieces and will have to be bolted together in the field.

  • ?

I have damage to my canopy what do I need to do to get it fixed?

    A

If the prefab canopy structure is compromised, you should contact a local 3rd-party inspection agency right away. If you feel the damages are cosmetic, we can assist with a budget pricing for your insurance claim and a site inspection prior to repairs.

  • ?

Will you provide fire suppression/electrical connections?

    A

No. We do not provide fire suppression or perform electrical work. That will need to be contracted separately.

  • ?

What will you provide to help install the canopy?

    A

Austin Mohawk provides a builder's copy of drawings to allow the contractor to install the canopy—there is no field welding required.
