Our Secret Sauce

There is a "secret sauce" in the exterior coating system we use in our Austin Mohawk steel buildings. This system was developed to best protect our buildings from winter salt, as well as to provide an outstandingly tough, durable, and color fade-resistant exterior coating.

  1. A building's steel base frame is the most visibly exposed area to potential rust. To protect against this we coat 100% of each base frame with a Urethane Vehicular Underbody Coating which is tougher as a rust inhibitor than hot dipped galvanizing.
  2. We apply a two-coat paint system that contains zinc phosphate, and a finish coat of environmentally friendly low V.O.C. Aliphatic, Acrylic Polyurethane, which is designed to perform in "high visibility" industrial/commercial applications and is color-fade, impact, abrasion and salt spray resistant.

Using these two protective coating systems in each building provides clearly the best rust protective system in the industry. Visually comparing our protected steel buildings in the field with our competitors quickly tells this story of the "secret sauce" and the reduction in maintenance costs that result from it.
